Do I need to get a permit for my new fence?
For most standard residential properties, a permit is not required if the fence is 6 feet tall or shorter in the backyard. However, rules vary depending on corner lots, front yards, or specific Homeowners Association (HOA) guidelines. We can assist you in navigating local city codes during your initial consultation.
How long does a typical fence installation take?
Most standard residential projects are completed within 1 to 3 days, depending on the total length of the fence and the toughness of the terrain. Clearing away an old, existing fence can add a little time, but our crew works efficiently to minimize any disruption to your routine and leave your yard spotless.
Who is responsible for identifying underground utility lines before digging?
Your safety and property integrity are our priorities. Forest Fencing handles the utility marking process entirely. Before we dig a single hole, we coordinate with your cities 811 (Call Before You Dig) locators to have all underground gas, electric, and water lines clearly marked out.
What type of lumber do you use, and do you recommend staining it?
We primarily use premium, locally sourced Redwood and Western Red Cedar because they naturally resist insects, rot, and decay. To minimize warping or splitting, we select high grade, straight grain lumber and use heavy duty fasteners. Staining is also highly recommended to protect your fence from moisture damage and fading caused by California’s intense UV rays.
